Pride, In Three Acts

Remarkably is proudly LGBT-owned. This Pride Month, our CMO Mario Muttenthaler on why visibility matters more than ever, and the three very different places it's shown up for him.

Sixteen years ago, I met the man I'd build a life with. In a week, we'll celebrate four years of marriage. Today we run a business together. And yes, he's definitely the boss. Remarkably is proudly LGBT-owned.

I don't open with that to make a point about us. I open with it because this Pride Month, as the climate around our community grows more uncertain, simply being visible feels like it matters more than it has in years.

I won't pretend we've had it hard lately. Rich and I have built our lives and our business in a place of safety. But like anyone who grew up LGBTQ+, I know what it is like to carry challenges others never see, and I haven't forgotten them. That's why, in a moment when the easy thing is to go quiet, I think it's important we use our voice.

Over the past few weeks, I've experienced this in different ways.

In the markets

I was invited by Fabrice Houdart to the Ringing of the Bell for LGBTIQ+ Equality at the London Stock Exchange. My first time at the LSE, and it was poignant. It brought together banks, investors, activists and allies to make a simple point: LGBTQ+ people belong at the heart of global markets. A deeply human (and hilarious) keynote from Sandi Toksvig, and the floor full of business leaders leaning in.

In our industry

My husband and I were at the Rainbow Honours, a night celebrating the people and organisations driving LGBTQIA+ equity, one act of inclusion at a time. Thank you Motie for the invite.

At home

Later this month, Rich and I will help host our annual Pride gathering in our hometown of Whitstable. No sponsors, no big production, just queer joy, music and real community by the Kentish seaside. Last year it was Pirates of the Queer-ibbean. On 27 June, it's Club Tropicana.

Pride Month isn't a logo or a moment in June. It's a commitment, to each other, to our teams, and to those who don't yet feel safe to be themselves.

Happy Pride Month. 🏳️‍🌈
